Distaclor CD is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that has a spectrum similar to that of first-generation cephalosporins. Laboratory tests have shown that the bactericidal effect of cephalosporins is due to the inhibition of cell-wall synthesis. Distaclor CD has demonstrated effectiveness against the majority of strains of the following microorganisms, both in vitro and in clinical situations: Gram-positive aerobes - Staphylococci (including coagulase-positive, coagulase-negative, and penicillinase-producing strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pyogenes (group A ß-hemolytic streptococci). Gram-negative aerobes - Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae (including ß-lactamase-producing ampicillin-resistant strains), Klebsiella species, and Proteus mirabilis.
Like penicillins, Distaclor CD is a beta-lactam antibiotic. It works by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) found within the bacterial cell wall, inhibiting the third and final stage of cell wall synthesis. This leads to cell lysis, which is facilitated by bacterial autolytic enzymes such as autolysins. It is possible that cefaclor disrupts an autolysin inhibitor.
Patients should be advised that antibacterial medications should exclusively be used for bacterial infections, as they are ineffective against viral infections (such as the common cold).
Distaclor CD is not recommended for patients with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Distaclor CD Indication: It is indicated for the treatment of specific infections caused by bacteria, including pneumonia and infections of the ear, lungs, skin, throat, and urinary tract.
